There are psychological triggers that cause erectile dysfunction, that is scientifically proven. It is estimated that around 10% to 20% of erectile dysfunction cases have a psychological basis. Physiological Causes of ED
There are a number of physiological factors that can cause erectile dysfunction:
- Alcohol use (heavy) and alcoholism
- Atherosclerosis (clogged blood vessels)
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Injury that affects the pelvic area
- Injury that affects the spinal cord
- Metabolic syndrome
- Multiple sclerosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Prescription Medications (some)

- Sleep disorders
- Substance abuse

- Surgery that affects the pelvic area

- Treatment for enlarged prostate or prostate cancer
